SMA Solar Technology AG (“SMA”), a global specialist in advanced technologies for solar power generation and energy storage systems, has adopted Rohm's new 2kV SiC MOSFETs in its new solar system “Sunny Central FLEX”. SMA Solar Technology AG (“SMA”), a specialist in solar energy system technology, has adopted the new Rohm's new 2kV SiC MOSFETs in its new “Sunny Central FLEX” solar power system. The “Sunny Central FLEX” is a modular platform designed for large-scale solar power facilities, energy storage systems and next-generation technologies to further improve grid efficiency and stability.
Rohm Semiconductor Europe President Wolfram Harnack said: "Rohm's new 2kV withstand voltage SiC MOSFETs are designed to achieve simple and efficient converter circuits for 1,500V DC links. Developed with high reliability in mind, they are cosmic ray resistant, so they meet the harsh environmental conditions of solar power generation and the need for extended converter life. In addition, Rohm's SiC device technology with built-in gate resistor not only makes it easier to drive in parallel within the module, but also simplifies the design of high-output power modules. The product is now in mass production."
SEMIKRON Danfoss's SEMITRANS? 20 is designed for high-power applications and high-speed switching operation, and belongs to the next generation of power modules for large converters. The SEMITRANS? 20 with built-in Rohm 2kV SiC is a key component of the SMA Sunny Central FLEX. Peter Sontheimer, Senior Vice President of Industrial Sector at SEMIKRON Danfoss, said: "SEMIKRON Danfoss and Rohm have been working together for more than 10 years, and previously both companies have focused on promoting the use of SiC technology in power modules. More recently, the collaboration has centered around silicon IGBT modules, and the SEMITRANS? 20 is a simple and efficient solution for applications supporting 1,500V DC voltage. The module is ideally suited for solar power generation and energy storage systems. In the future, there are also promising applications for chargers for high-power electric trucks and converters for wind power generation."
Bernd Gessner, Product Manager for Power Conversion Systems at SMA, said: "Through the cooperation between SMA, SEMIKRON Danfoss and Rohm, we are working together to realize energy projects with a focus on the future by seamlessly combining the innovative technologies of all three parties with their respective strengths. The demand for these solutions has never been higher, and SMA's expertise over many years has resulted in products that offer an exceptionally high level of performance, reliability, durability, and flexibility, and Sunny Central FLEX will continue to meet these high standards well into the future, thanks to the close collaboration with like-minded partners.
