In modern vehicles, many systems rely on precise switch and latch mechanisms for immediate feedback. Given the number of switches widely distributed throughout the vehicle, it is critical to ensure their efficient operation and minimize power consumption, with every microwatt saved being significant. Melexis introduces the MLX92235 microwatt switch chip, which is available in four product model versions to meet these needs. This three-wire, monolithic magnetic switch chip ensures optimal performance throughout the vehicle's life cycle with industry-leading accuracy, superior consistency and reliability.

To minimize board space requirements, the MLX92235 is available in a standard automotive-grade TSOT23-3L package that does not require any external components. The switch maintains stable and reliable performance over a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C in the demanding vehicle environment. In addition, the chip's flexible input voltage, magnetic threshold selection, temperature coefficient, update rate and output options (push-pull or open-drain mode) make it easy to integrate into a variety of vehicle systems.

The MLX92235 features an advanced power design with integrated auto-sleep/wake-up logic and typical sleep current consumption of only 0.65μA at 1.8V. It also supports selectable sleep time settings from 0.6ms to 800ms.

As a highly sensitive Hall sensor chip with chopper stabilization, the MLX92235 is capable of providing accurate and non-contact feedback in a wide range of magnetically-enabled applications, including unipolar/all-pole switch or latch configurations. With its versatility, compact size and efficient performance, the MLX92235 will enable outstanding designs for automotive engineers. Its feedback mechanism can also further facilitate the development of smart vehicle features, such as automatically triggering the lighting of interior ambient lighting when a door or sun visor is opened, enhancing the intelligence and ambience of the driving experience.
